Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is dateless – being recited by Hindus since thousands of years; probably coming into existence in the Vedic times when worshipping the Higher Power in the form of Divine Mother was quite prevalent.
In Padma Purana, Lord Indra, the king of gods, is said to have recited it in order to get the grace of The Divine Mother.
Padma Purana, which contains six books total consisting of at least 50,000 Sanskrit metrical verses. The composition date of Padma Purana is unknown. Estimated vary between the 4th and 15th century CE; some parts of the text may be from the 750 to 1000 CE period.
Padma Purana It derives its name from the lotus on which Lord Brahma is seated. Lord Indra recited this shloka when Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the churning of the ocean of milk.
