I would like to learn the dimensions of the piazza - the length and the depth. On a recent tour of Mount Vernon, I asked several guides but they didn't know the answer. Next time, I'm going to take a tape measure with me and determine for myself the dimensions.

Mount Vernon appears to be much more imposing in photographs and film than it actually is. In person you are aware that it isn't built on such a large scale and is humble farmhouse which has been expanded over the years.

Lawrence was George's half brother, not step brother.

I finally got an answer why the front door is off center.

Lawrence was George Washington 's half brother not his step brother. Lawrence's wife rented Mt. Vernon to George after she remarried. Then her daughter died and George inherited Mt. Vernon.

Interesting facts and quite a humble small structure considering the American people wanted to make him a king.
I love the fake window design..Shows even Washington had the good horse sense to build a place of privacy safe from voyuerism! 😉

1:12 Laurence wasn't Washington's step-brother, he was his half-brother. Pretty glaring mistake for someone who works at Mt. Vernon. Now about that shirt . . .

Laurence was his half brother not step brother! He also inherited it from Laurences widow! Laurences widow and daughter, who inherited the mansion, both died. George was 'renting' the property from his sister in law
