Wankel rotary engine
Показать описание
Wankel rotary engine Rotary engine is a thermal engine. Armature is its main operational element that makes rotational movement. The engine was invented in 1957 by Feliks Wankel, an engineer. It's sometimes called Wankel engine. Rotary engine is a combustion engine, such as reciprocating motor, but it works in a different way. Four processes, namely admission, compression, combustion stroke and emission occur in one and the same cylinder of a reciprocating motor Rotary engine performs four cycles in one and the same chamber but each cycle takes place in a separate section of the chamber. Stator and rotor are main components of a rotary engine. Stator is a closed cavity with a three-edged rotor running inside. The rotor is installed on shaft and connected to gear component. The gear component interlocks with a fixed gearwheel (stator). The rotor has three domed sides, each serves as a piston. A metal plate is on top of each side. They compose chambers where engine cycles are performed. Two metal rings on each rotor side make the walls of the chambers. There is a circle in the middle of the rotor. It has a lot of teeth. The teeth are connected to a drive that is attached to output shaft. The connection determines the way and direction for the rotor inside the chamber. The engine makes three full operating cycles during one turn-around. It is equivalent to the operation of six-cylinder reciprocating engine. Wankel engine can have more turn-arounds comparing to traditional engines. It is achieved thanks to absence of reciprocating action conversion into a rotational one.
