Love Bill Maher but he’s got this completely wrong. The Jews were less then 5% of the Palestinian regions population for over 2000 years. And the people that never left suddenly got expelled when the Jews came back with big brother USA in the 1900’s, 2000 years later. Would current white Americans be okay if the Native Indians came back with big brother China and expelled them all out? Or tell them all to live in Alaska and just ‘accept it’ like Arafat should have accepted the new borders? Is it that complex to recognise that an entire people were expelled from what they believed was their ancestral home since the beginning of time?

The jews where not the only ones to live there though...so saying "the jews where the ones who were occupied" thats also not right. In fact there where many different tribes there and you know how the jewish WORLDTRAVEL routine began? havent you ever wondered WHY theres so many jews EVERYWHERE else? Thats because the jewish tribe (were talking about a time when there where still city states not countries) was so roudy and attacked other cities over and over to expand that one day the 5 biges city states in the area came together rased the jewish city and bannished the tribe from the region for ever...THATS how the "great voyage" began for the jewish people. Now of course jews remained in today israel in other city states and so on and so forth and by the time the romans came Judaism was one of the largest religions in the region again...But what he say here is just factually incorrect. It was indeed the tribes of jewish decent who started this whole problem in the region which would go on for ever...and even still trouble us today.

Maher is historically incorrect. The location of biblical and modern day Israel was initially occupied by the Canaanites, who were driven from the land by the Jews. Bilblically the Canaanites were wiped out by the Jews, however DNA has revealed genetically modern day Lebanese are Canaanites. Maher is both biblically and historically correct in Israel being occupied many times through the centuries with many migrants living in the region. Of course no Muslims lived in ancient Israel since Islam was born in 610AD. I’m not certain modern Israelites, many who are of European descent, have more of a genetic claim to land they abandoned hundreds of years ago. If the claim is biblical then both Jews and Christians have equal claim since Christianity is an extension of Judaism. If the modern world is going to fight over ancient land claims then we are all ultimately screwed.

Honestly, it is hard to defend either sides behavior in this conflict but, one side holds all the power and should behave accordingly. When the government of a democratic republic loses a PR war with 18 year old thugs throwing rocks they are doing something wrong.

It is interesting that the clip does not show the map with Israel land approved by the UN and the current area occupied by Israel, because it was shown in the show and you clearly see that, today Israel occupies land that is not approved by the UN. A lot of land.
History is important and helps justify why it was reasonable to create an Israeli state in that region, but it is also normal, that people that occupied the land were not happy with that.
After what happened in WWII the international community created a solution for the Israeli state, a difficult compromise that was achieved by establishing rules, however, when those rules are not complied with by the representatives of the state of Israel the support of the international community will erode, it has already started and will continue if we do not see a will to find a solution which is similar to the compromise achieved after WWII.
