There is nothing quite like a good old fashioned treasure hunt, which is apparently what has been happened for quite some time on Oak Island located in Canada. I have never heard about this story of long lost treasure so it sounded like an absolutely amazing tale for me to react and learn about as an American. There is a series on The History Channel call The Curse of Oak Island. I believe there are about 7 or 8 seasons and the 2 main people involved are Rick and Marty Lagina of Michigan. The series follows their attempts to find the treasure. Definitely worth watching.

Brothers Rick and Marty Lagina have been chasing the Oak Island mystery for many seasons to the present day on the History Channel. They are determined and can find just enough clues to keep them going through the frustration of not finding a complete treasure. Along the way they are meeting many experts in their various fields to provide historical and scientific knowledge and others that provide detective-like investigation into the various theories. The brothers throw modern science and technology at the mystery. I'm fascinated by the Knights Templar, so I was drawn into the mystery that way. A note of trivia, future US president Franklin D. Roosevelt became interested in 1909 in the treasure of Oak Island and followed the mystery until his death in 1945.

I live in Nova Scotia. I've actually been to Oak Island as a kid before it became totally private property. Definitely something going on there, whatever it is.

Fun fact for non-Canadian viewers: "Nova Scotia" means "New Scotland" in Latin and is the recognized English-language name for the province. In both French and Scottish Gaelic, the province is directly translated as "New Scotland" (French: Nouvelle-Écosse. Gaelic: Alba Nuadh).

My ancestors owned a plot of land on Oak Island in the 1800's. The Curse of Oak Island is a fascinating tv series though. It'll answer all your questions and leave you with a hundred more.

In 1976 I visited Oak Island with my late wife, who at the time was my fiancee, and found a four-leaf clover near the Money Pit. So I was hooked on following The Curse of Oak Island on the History Channel. A search on the Internet found that the mystery has been solved to some degree, but we just have to tune in to the next episodes. Coincidentally, on this excursion, we were able to inspect Bluenose II at Lunenburg and the Citadel in Halifax.

Yes this is a real thing. This isn't the only site of pirate treasure in that province, but by far is the most famous. The island is now privately owned, so permission would be needed to explore, but many have failed in finding the elusive loot and some have died in the search for it

it is true, and there is a television production that premiered in Canada on the History network on January 6, 2014, people have been ripping the island apart for many many years

Theodore Roosevelt even even dug the money pit. He was convinced something or enormous importance and wealth was buried.

Nice. Oak Island. My backyard. Well, I'm about an hr & 15 min's drive away. Been on it a few times. Camped out on it back when I was in high school. Now it's part of my tour commentary.
OMG...1795, not 1799.
What Daniel McGinnis found was a depression in the ground about a dozen feet in diameter. Nearby grew a huge oak tree and one of the branches extended over the depression. From this branch hung a decayed block & tackle, directly above the depression.
The 90 foot stone. Last seen in a bookstore window in Halifax in the early 1900's. Last believed location is a Masonic lodge in Truro, Nova Scotia. The translation is far from being certain. No one really knows what it says.
Yes, they built it to flood. It was/is booby trapped.
And the saying is, "The treasure will be found when seven lives are lost and all the oak trees are gone." I think it's at 8 dead (Fred Nolan & Dan Blankenship, competing treasure hunters died about 5(?) years ago or so) The oaks are still there.
Nolan's Cross. Fred Nolan ()previously mentioned) was a surveyor, and he surveyed every friggin inch of Oak Island. He found the cross. And the boulder in the center is shaped like a skull, not a face.
Blackbeard's name was Teach. As in teacher.
Some of the other theories include the French treasury from Fortress Louisbourg after losing it to the British, Spanish gold &silver from South America, and ancient shipyard (too much to explian), Queen Anne's Jewels. My money's on the Templars. Look into the voyage of Henry Sinclair.
But yeah, it's all real. I've seen it. You can find clips from the History Channel show "Curse of Oak Island" on youtube. You should check it out. The two brothers looking for it have spent probably 15 million bucks so far.

Many famous Americans invested money in the Oak Island dig including actors John Wayne and Errol Flynn along with the Astor Family and also President F.D. Roosevelt.
There is also more than one Oak Island in Nova Scotia, the second one is in Cumberland County so do not get them mixed up if ever coming for a visit.

I live within a 5 hour drive of Oak Island, we did a tour in 2016 or 17 (season 4 of the Oak Island series ), you should watch all 10 seasons on YouTube, it’s very interesting! We got to meet Rick Lagina, he and his brother currently own a big piece of the Island now.
