technically speaking no matter what happens it isn't canon. it's canon to the reboot timeline, which is fine. that's something i like about code geass, we got the satisfying ending that concludes lelouch's story and the happy ending where we get to see him keep going. so you get to enjoy both regardless of which you prefer.

Code Geass ended BECAUSE Lelouches plan, worked. All the worlds hate is focused on him and he is "dead". For that to work, he must remain "dead" I think the movie Lelouch of the Resurrection had a huge issue in that it seemingly forget about Geass being a power of the mind, likely related to the collective unconscious and instead decided "No, it's witchcraft, check out this magic". Having the lady actually rewind time ruined the aspect of the show. However one thing it did well, is that although it pulled Lelouch back into the show, it didn't thrust the world into chaos and war, it kept the world relatively peaceful and although Lelouch did come back, he wasn't revealed to much of the world, and at the end adopted a new identity to help conceal his identity. "Lelouch" can't be alive, that's how his plan works.

So in this new series, if Lelouch plays a role, it must be through a secret identity or a hidden role, and it shouldn't throw the world back into chaos. Small scale conflict is better. World Wars would mean Lelouches plan actually failed. Remember the world is all unified and run by a very sweet young girl who wants the world to be a gentler place. Schneizel is also "pretty smart" and he serves Zero (Suzaku) so unless someone is pretending to be Zero, recruiting Schneizel and then using him to cause problems, Lelouches plan should have succeeded and he should stay mostly out of the story, and the story should focus on small things out of Nunally's control. Also no more magical Geass's please. There probably shouldn't be any new Geass's since CC and LL probably aren't in the habit of handing them out like candy, however if there is, hopefully they effect the mind and not fucking time. "Rolo, you can't stop time, no one can, you just altered my perception of time"

One thing to note: I personally love the idea that Lelouch and CC would act as Roze's "masters." This is just me guessing, but at the end of Ressurection (post-credits scene), Lelouch and CC are in a forest and Lelouch is repeating the warning that CC gave him in the very first episode. So maybe he was saying it to someone else, like Roze?
I like this idea because CC and Lelouch wouldn't have to play a vital part of the show necessarily I think, they'd just show up once in a while to give Roze some advice and laugh at him for being an idiot like CC did to Lelouch.
Anyway, my theory, but I'm excited to see the show with or without Lelouch (I can't say honestly that I won't be sad if Lelouch isn't in this)

This is the true Code Geass Fan spirit! Finally someone who wasn’t over analyzing and critiquing a 40 Second teaser for not showing Geass, OG characters, and basically demanding that they gave him us the entire story of a 40 second trailer.

I’m honestly as of now excited I’m getting more of this show atm. I think any cameos from the old series could be a treat if done respectfully and within good taste, regardless of the character, and so long as they can carry that essence of strategy and politics from the original

I actually think Lelouch could work as a main antagonist. I think he would be best as a villain behind a villain, like Madara. When they teased him as a villain in Renya it actually really raised the stakes, because we know how intimidating Lelouch is as an enemy

Think they should make an anime showing Europa fight Britania, because we know of a piece contract between both sides and it would be cool to see wich pilots are responsible for it, also want to see more from Europa after seeing it in the other spinoff (Akkito the Exiled)

And for Rose I don't need to see Lelouch as cameo or memberbarrys, his ending is perfect, but if they do something good with him (like the lie comes out) I'm in for it.

So I've said this elsewhere but Code Geass has become a pretty large series with lots of non-anime characters, abilities, and thoughts I think are really interesting and should be more well known.
So I'm hyped but I'd really like it if this was a more basic series with only small links to anything else and if it does well we can more properly bring in all of those lesser known things the series has.

I really doubt that Lelouch would be included in the first half of the Anime. He must be someone who fans are eager to see, like a fish seeing some bait. That and the main Protagonist must first need his own time to evolve. Lelouch would just steal to much spotlight.
However, I really cannot imagine that Lelouch won't appear at all. Even if just as a cameo, I think he will appear somehow.

And he would never kill his sister, I just cannot imagine that. But I can very well imagine her to die because of some other cause, maybe even by the hand of our new Protagonist.

Either way I would love another Code Geass series. Maybe, if they want to include Lelouch, and C2, who I am still convinced is real name is Cecilia, as she is often associated with Lelouch and, in my opinion, a very subtle romance between them with Lelouch of the Resurrection adding fuel to that theory, it could be in a supporting capacity. Or, I just thought of this, perhaps they could seek advice from Lelouch only to find out that he is living a surprisingly peaceful life with C2 and his drive for bloodlust-revenge has been satiated and either refuses to aid in bloodshed again or his drive for rebellion is kindled anew by senseless slaughtering making him feel his work has failed to unify the world or it only did so temporarily.

It's still my headcanon that at the end of R2 that C2 is talking directly to Lelouch as the driver of the wagon smirks as if acknowledging and knowing what she is talking about yet leaving it ambiguous enough that you can also conclude that Lelouch is dead and the driver is just amused or is some unknown character that C2 knows, yet the audience doesn't.

Code Geass is still my favorite anime series with a superb English dub. So, any excuse for more Code Geass is great in my mind.
