I think it depends on how it’s done, the reason why Spocks resurrection doesn’t undo his sacrifice is they dedicate an entire movie to his return and we don’t even really see Spock until the very end when the crew suffer great lost, it seems earned. Kirk lost his son for Spock to come back.

What I liked about Shaw was the fact that he realistically pointed everything out... like "Hot Dropping" the Enterprise D Saucer section, the whole chicken and egg thing, flat out telling them no when they asked to take his ship. Dude legit was how many people in his position would be, especially when we learned that he was a Wolf 359 survivor. Heck I loved his line after that reveal, saying "Forgive me, at some point asshole became a substitute for charm." His death, like others on the show, was a literal gut punch. Anyone who saw it, will never forget it and it shouldn't be cheapened no matter how much we want to see more of the character. Best we should settle for is prequel adventures on another ship.

In Shaw's case you were right the first time. The state of writing these days is such that they can't afford to throw away good characters that they inadvertently create. Most should stay dead though. You have the correct ending to Picard with Riker getting the Enterprise with three nacelles, because lack of continuity is what is hurting these shows so badly. Love your channel.

Kirk's Body was a verifiable 'Miracle' as it was his second 'death'. That body from Generation was materialized from the Ribbon Realm. It should have been recovered almost immediately. I have no problem with his remains at Daystrom.

The one thing about Shaw's death... There is no question he was shot with a phaser set to kill. So was Beverly Crusher (or maybe it was a disrupter). In any event, it is at least conceivable that Seven and Raffi got the unconscious and grievously injured Shaw to Beverly's cheat-death-stasis pod that was still in sick bay.

Still haven’t heard you articulate how important Shaw’s death was. After his frustration years ago in being picked to survive by unmerited inclusion on an escape pod during the war with the Borg, he now sacrifices himself to provide a chance for those who have earned his respect to escape and defeat the Borg. He provided meaning to his life, to those who lost theirs years ago, and to the survival of starfleet and all the people they represent.

They brought Data back to life in Season 3 of "Star Trek: Picard" and I loved it and I'm not ashamed at all to admit that it actually made me a little teary eyed.

Though sad when favourite characters die, if it’s done I’m a good way and is meaningful then it keeps a tv series interesting and as said here, shows that there are consequences may and peril in adventures like these.

I agree. I wasn't happy that they chose to kill Shaw's character, but his death was an incredible full circle moment for him and reversing it would lessen the impact of the scene. The Idea that I heard for bringing back Shaw that I liked the most is that Star Fleet chooses to implement a new Emergency Engineering Hologram (EEH) and model the hologram after Captain Liam Shaw as a tribute to his service and sacrifice. Then, since we know that Q is still around and enjoys screwing with both the Enterprise and the offspring of Picard, he chooses to endow their copy of the EEH with the entirety of Shaw's memories, experiences, and personality.

They made the right call with Shaw, I think. He died saving the men he struggled to like to respect in a move that brought his whole "survivor's guilt" story to a perfect conclusion. He was the one getting to pick and choose at that moment, and he chose to stay and for the others to live, resolving his complex about his being chosen to live at Wolf 359 while the officer who chose him died. His moment with Seven was touching but didn't feel quite as earned as most of the other plot points, since their rivalry didn't get as much attention as it could have in the later episodes. But I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment that frequent resurrections (or even too much use of AU/MU counterparts) really lessen the impact of otherwise meaningful deaths. I'm kind of on the fence about Kirk's body, though. The idea of some people's corpses being more valuable than others just because of who they were is just...odd to me. Like in a fourth-wall-breaking kind of way. The real reason it was there is that it was Captain Kirk from TOS, arguably the most popular character (or captain character) in the franchise. In-universe, Kirk was a brilliant captain who did some legendary things, but he was just a man. Nothing about his physical remains should have been all that remarkable or worthy of study. Picard's human body, at least, had a viable reason to be kept and studied, due to those Borg modifications. That made sense to me. But having Kirk's body also there just made it weirder in a way. Like are they going to collect the corpses of every "legendary" captain just because they were really good at their jobs? Is someone trying to collect all the Enterprise captains' corpses? In my opinion, if they were going to take Kirk's body, it should have been moved to whatever Starfleet's equivalent of Arlington is, or even buried in his hometown in Iowa.

Ro's death scene was excellent ... It brought her arc to a perfect conclusion and her face to face with Picard was beautiful.
I think Matalas is just VERY fond of the character ... and that probably played a part in him not wanting her to be dead ... but it was an incredible episode, and as a massive Ro fan I was really satisfied with her ending.

Consistency is definitely NOT what this season was based on! Shaw's character changed so much during one single season I had no idea what person I was going to get in each scene and that included after he died!

The problem a lot of the time is character deaths like Ro and Shaw are usually done for shock value or to set up a seven and Raffi spin off only to find out the hard way the dead characters you can't use anymore are the ones people really want to see. I'm not at all interested in a seven Raffi enterprise G show but I will watch a captain shaw show on the titan A set after Picard season 3 with the laforge sisters and that cool also dead Vulcan girl. It's a shame that's no longer an option

Shaw was the writer's self insert used to make fun of Picard. Basically the same as the "sheer f*cking hubris" Admiral from Season 1.

It would have been interesting if Ronny Cox played Captain Shaw's commanding officer back in the day.

I agree with your new assessment of Shaw's death. You say in so many words resurrecting Shsw would cheapen his death. On a tangent, Data's "resurrection" was handled well. Even he says he is not quite the same Data that died in Nemesis.

Beast: “I’ve died multiple times”
Kitty Pride: “My bird wants to know if we’re counting parallel universes?”
Magneto: “I will just kill you all!”
Beast: “That would only serve to complicate the issue further”

You know, Data was resurrected this season, and this was one of the best, if not the most wholesome, thing of this season!

I think Shaw could have been a great character moving forward, having been initiated into the Next Gen brotherhood. Witty, brilliant character - unlike the labored attempts at that from the young Riker. but as you have said in a previous video, it's time to archive Start Trek altogether and create something new.
