Paid $8.00 for a slice of durian, the fruit that divides the world, on the streets of Da Nang, Vietnam! 🇻🇳 Some people love it, others hate it—I’m definitely in the "hate it" group haha. I needed to try it for the experience and to get a first-hand opinion. And I can definitely say this was my first and last time. I can't handle the smell or the taste.

📍 Somewhere on the streets of Da Nang, Vietnam

Must be a crap Durian, it should be sweet and creamy, probably the best fruit in the world, absolutely delicious, don't listen to her, try it yourself, but make sure it doesn't look like that one, no black, should be bright and soft.

He completely scammed you. That fruit was already bad and he was just trying to get rid of it.

Durian is quite expensive depending on which subspecies you get. The better ones are in Malaysia or Indonesia. Specifically the Musang King variety, more creamy and sweet. Some variety are bitter. The tough one are most likely under ripe. In Thailand they are cut from the tree during harvest but ripe durian should fall on its own.

Durian is an acquired taste. You either love it or hate it. I happened to love it. The smell doesn’t really bother me. I travelled frequently to SE Asian. Malaysia durian hands down they by far the best durian

First time tasting, I would recommend do it in Thailand.
As Thais prefer milder odor durian, westerners are more likely to accept durian. After acquaintance, try stronger taste durian varieties like Malaysia varieties.

They say durian smells like moldy cheese, it smells like my feet after I walked barefoot in a salt lake in the summer

I lived in Singapore for 11yrs and haven’t tried this fruit, and now I kind of regret it to not even try it once so I will actually know what it tastes like 😁

If you get it ripe and freeze it, the smell dies down some and mostly reserve the sweetness. It looks a bit old, so you might of got a bad one or a different subspecies?

As a Vietnamese, I am so sorry for your bad experience. Durian can be expensive depends on its variety, but that prick just ripped you off. Shame on him!

Refrigerating it, before serving does the magic. It’s mostly used as a refreshing fruit in humid weather.
