There is also using signal processing using the integral DSP in the hearing aid to increase the signal to noise ratio

Do you know of any CIC with Bluetooth connectivity? My Signia used to have a devise I could wear but apparently don’t make it anymore. I can’t be the only one who still loves CIC and Bluetooth…

Wrong. There’s a fourth method and it doesn’t require technology, but enhances what it does: face away from the noise.

If you’re using directional microphones or a remote mic, their effectiveness can be undermined simply by facing where the majority of the noise is coming from. If you’re facing the noise, you’re going to hear the noise.

So, face away from the noise!

In a restaurant, as an example, sit with your back to the noise and have your conversational partner sit with their back to the wall. By doing so, you’ll maximize how much the technology is helping you. If the directional mics are only amplifying what’s in front of you, they’re only amplifying your friend.

And this helps whether you’re using directional mics or not. Our ears a shaped slightly to focus forward. So using this technique can also help (a bit) even when you’re not wearing hearing aids. Hearing aids with directional mics help even more, but not if you’re facing the wrong direction.
