r/AITA never fails to deliver the insanity. The AITA subreddit has exploded on the Internet in recent months, so I created a spin-off series where I react to them with my own little twist: running through a public park with a gigantic red flag.

The person in story 1 needs to cancel the wedding. They basically got a preview of their married life - that MIL loves to push boundaries and their husband always takes mom's side. That's not how you want to spend the entire marriage

The last one purposefully destroyed something he loved out of spite. That is DARKER than you realize. That's abusive behavior.

Story 1. She should show the picture with her mother-in-law in the wedding dress,
after photoshopping the fiancé in a suit next to her mother.
Big colorful letters, Hope you have A Wonderful Wedding.
And ghosted, everyone after on.

1st story is WILD.
1. They're not a Red flag
2. The mil and fiance are crazy
3. Call off the damn wedding and throw away that dude.
4. Throw that whole dress AWAY.
Op deserves better. Smh.

The wedding dress story. The Mil is a problem but not the problem. Same for the dress. The problem is that her fiancé knew her boundary, sneakily helped Mil cross it, sided against OP, dismissed OP’s feelings and concerns, pulled an UNO reverse card and demanded OP apologize to Mil, demanded destruction of evidence of Mil’s transgression and there are a few other red flags in there as well. Pay for a new dress? No. Tell him his mommy can wear it at the wedding because he’s already married to her. OP needs to cut her losses and move on.

Ok, when I heard the title of the last one, I assumed she tried to cook the steaks for him, ACCIDENTALLY burned them, and he just blew his top. Totally thought he was the red flag. Genuinely couldn’t see how he wouldn’t be. NOPE! She is PSYCHOTIC! This is why you wait to wave that flag 😅😂

1st story: throw out the fiance and the family. this man is more controlling than a puppeteer at a puppet show

“love of wedding dresses” is a weird way to say emotional incest. Who wants to wear another bride’s dress before she does, let alone your future daughter in law?
Edit: just an after thought, was his mom gonna walk down the stairs in it like some kind of teen flick prom dress reveal and model it for her son ? 😂 they’re both sick and I just hope OP didn’t marry into this weird family.

Story 1: OP needs to run. Her fiance can marry his mommy.

Story 2: NTA. Parents can't have it both ways. OP has a bright future ahead of him. And won't they be surprised when he goes NC and they don't have his money anymore.

Story 3: Um...I think GF may be a bit psychotic. And they should break up. And she should get help. Serious, intensive therapy help.

I'm sorry. I'm usually the person advocating for working it out & 2nd chances.
If someone I was dating deliberately burned my special dinner to a crisp & then proceeded to mock me about it, we'd be done. That's unstable AF.

It should be a criminal offense to charge a 16yo rent for living in their parents house. Wth people you can't charge your kids rent don't have kids if this is how you're gonna treat them
Unless its a savings that they are going to hand over when the kid moves out but sounds like the kid is more grown up than they are anyway and is headed out and away from them, good for them, ugh, gross parents, that is financial abuse

The minor having to pay rent story was too close to home.

My egg donor and the second useless man she married, charged me rent when I was 16, and still in high school. I also had to buy my own food, clothes, toiletries, and anything else I needed or wanted. He had three kids from a previous marriage, and she had me and my sister from a previous marriage. I was THEE ONLY CHILD who had to pay rent; and I'm the youngest of all 5 children...

Is it a wonder why I went no contact in adulthood? 🙄

The wedding dress story -- she needs to RUN, not WALK, away from that relationship. Don't marry that man because he will always, always, ALWAYS take Mommy's side no matter how many boundaries she stomps on. Sell the wedding dress and hightail it out of there.

If some crazy MIL or SIL, or whoever, asks to "try on" your wedding dress, immediately call your bff and drive your dress to their house to keep it safe and away from these sickos. And then see how soon-to-be hubby reacts... you may need to call off the wedding.

Bruh... Why is the mother-in-law trying on her wedding dress???? Hell, why is she so comfortable disrespecting other people's boundaries????

The 1st story.. run girl. The MIL is the red flag and her son is probably the golden child. Yuck

The "If they're distancing themselves from the family, then there's probably a reason" thing? So fucking real. The only family I've talked to in months is my brother, and he wasn't exactly a saint either.

It's sad.

I grew up basically being a live in nurse for my sickly Oma (grandmother) starting in high school. Was slandered to the rest of the family for not being “good enough” in school, not upkeeping my fathers house, not making a variety of fresh meals for my Oma (apparently made the same dish too many times), and being extremely lazy (sleeping off the exhaustion whenever I had the chance). Didn’t realize how bad it was until I became an actual adult and cut off that half of my family. I now have an extreme distain for adults who treat children like “adults” for their own convenience. Hope the woman in the second story goes not contact with her parents
