#dustinporier #conormcgregor #khabib This is an Excerpt from my documentary "Why Dustin Poirier Failed UFC" where Lionel Rivera breaks down the entire career and legacy of Louisiana's UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier. Dustin Poirier is a legend of mixed martial arts and a veteran UFC competitor who began his fighting career on the regional, amateur scene in Louisiana. Dustin made his WEC debut in 2010 against Danny Castillo and after losing his debut and bouncing back with a win over Zach Micklewright, the UFC acquired the WEC, making Dustin a UFC fighter. Dustin made his featherweight debut against #1 contender Josh Grispi at UFC 125, winning via unanimous decision and beginning a 4-fight win streak that included a submission win over Max Holloway. Unfortunately, Dustin lost to the Korean Zombie, submitted Jonathan Brookins and lost once more to Cub Swanson. Soon after, Dustin began a win streak before he was knocked out by Conor McGregor at UFC 178. Dustin then made his lightweight debut in the UFC, developing an impressive win streak until he was once again knocked out by Michael Johnson. But Poirier then bounced back with an impressive streak of wins, including finishing former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, finishing future interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, finishing former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and beating Max Holloway again to become the interim lightweight champion. Unfortunately, Dustin Poirier was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. Dustin rebounded by beating Dan Hooker, knocking out Conor McGregor at UFC 257 and breaking Conor McGregor's leg at UFC 264. And once again in another title shot, Dustin Poirier submitted to Charles Oliveira at UFC 269. In Dustin Poirier's last run at UFC gold, he submitted Michael Chandler, got KO'd by Justin Gaethje at UFC 291, knocked out Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299 and was submitted by Islam Makhachev in his final UFC title shot. 🎬 Videos you'll like:

To me, Dustin is like Jerry quarry, hard luck, always wanted to be a champion but unfortunately the champs of the time were extraordinary

Maybe I am wrong, but I feel if Dustin had refused to get on the ground when Charles was grabbing on his glove, he would have won that fight.

Dustin deserved to be champion more than anybody, but the timing and talent coming up was at its peak in the ufc. You can say the talent is better now, but khabib isn’t here so your wrong lol
