It's still influencing, just in a different way. It's under the guise of something more positive. But it's still influencing people to "buy this instead of that". At least in most of the videos I have seen. Sure you're saving people money if they were originally planning on buying something more expensive. But most likely you were just encouraging spending money on products in general. I feel like I kind of get the idea behind it, but it's flawed.
