Fill three gallons two times to dump into 5 gallon. Have one gallon left. Pour 5 gallon out. Put 1 gallon from earlier into 5 gallon then fill up 3 gallon. And dump into 5 gallon w/ one gallon in it and vealla 4 gallons.

Fill the 5 gallon with a full 3 gallon pitcher. Fill the three gallon pitched again and pour into the 5 gallon until full. Should have one gallon left in the 3 gallon pitcher. Empty 5 gallon, pour in the 1 and then pour in a full 3 gallon.

Fill 3 gallon and pour into the 5 gallon then fill the 3 gallon up again and empty into the 5 gallon until it's filled leaving you with 1 gallon in the 3 gallon container empty the 5 gallon completely pour that 1 gallon from the 3 gallon then fill the 3 gallon and add to the 1 gallon...Easy

Yeah, this is from the movie die hard with a vengeance with Samuel Jackson and Bruce Willis. It’s not hard to figure out first if you seen the movie.

OR Fill 3 gallon and transfer to 5 gallon. Fill 3 gallon again and transfer yet again to 5. Leaves 1 gallon in the 3 gallon Jug. Empty 5 gallon which is now full, and transfer the 1 gallon into it. Fill 3 gallon back up, and finaly transfer that into the 5 gallon, giving you 4 gallons.

Another way.. fill the 3.. put it in the 5.. then fill the 3 again.. put it in the 5.. your left with 1 in the 3.

Other way to do it: Fill the 3 gallon pour it into the 5, fill the 3 gallon again pour it until the 5 is full. You now have 1 gallon in the 3 gallon jug and 5 in the 5 gallon jug. Empty the 5 gallon jug pour the 1 gallon into it from the 3 gallon jug. Fill up the 3 gallon jug and pour it into the other. Congrats you now have 4 gallons in a jug.

They had a very similar puzzle in the Star Wars KOTOR game I played as a kid too.

Fill the 5 gallon with the 3 gallon thats 3/5 then fill the 3 gallon up, then fill with the 5 gallon again so now youre 5/5 and 1/3. Now empty the 5 then put that single gallon into the 5 and fill the 3 up so now its 1/5 and 3/3 and pour the 3 into the 5 so now its 4/5

Fill both to halfway and pour what's in the 3 gallon to the 5 gallon. 2.5 gallon plus 1.5 gallon equals 4 gallons.

Took me 2 minutes
Fill 3 gallon jug. Pour 3 gallon gallon jug into 5 gallo. Fill 3 gallon jug up again. Fill 5 gallon jug using 3 gallon jug. At this point, 5 gallon jug is filled, 3 gallon jug has 1 gallon of water in it. Dump out 5 gallon jug of water. Pour 1 gallon from 3 gallon jug into 5 gallon jug. Now fill 3 gallon jug up with water and pour into 5 gallon jug that has existing 1 gallon. That’s 4 gallons of water in a 5 gallon jug. Might’ve be short one or two drops from spills but that’s as close as you’ll get to 4 gallons without markers and stuff

Fill both jugs completely. Empty both of them half way. Pour the 1.5 gallons into the 2.5 gallons.
