Did You Know In THE DARK KNIGHT Despite how flawless and perfect Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker was, he actually improvised a lot of his scenes. Director Christopher Nolan revealed that while Heath would discuss a lot with him, he also loved the unpredictability of what he would do, which matched the Joker’s personality. When officer Jim Gordon gets promoted to commissioner, all of the officers begin clapping for him, we then see the camera pan to The Joker creepily staring him down and sarcastically clapping his hands. The clapping was entirely Heath’s idea and shows just how perfect he was for this role
