I agree with you 100% on this. The 10, 000 step count came from the first pedometer made in Japan and they used 10k steps because the symbol for 10k looked like a person walking. That's why I tell my clients or group members not to worry so much about hitting a specific number because it's just another statistic we use to measure success or failure like stepping on a scale. Instead just work your way up to better health and go for a walk. Then walk a little longer the following week. Sure, you can measure your step count but don't let it dictate your mood. Instead let your actions dictate your mood. Not a number! focus on things like how you feel mentally or physically after a walk. It'll motivate you to do it again, and again until you form a new healthy habit<3

This is a great video, Michelle, thank you. Makes so much sense. If we have stairs in our house, we really have no excuse. Also, there are lots of "walking" videos on the internet for walking on the spot to music.

Great video! It really encouraged me to keep walking. I’m trying to lose weight before my Ice Skating Show in March. I started off trying to do 1300 cals a day but I was so tired all the time. After watching your videos I’ve upped them to 1500 and I feel so much better! When I skate I go up to 1700. I’m still worried I’m not eating enough but I’m so scared to up them since I only have 2-1/2 more months til my show. But you’ve really showed me it’s not about starving yourself but just eating healthier and working out. It might take longer but it will be long term sustainable!

I bought myself a walking pad. I still walk outside as i live in a sunny beautiful town but the walking pad really helps for those days where I don't feel like going outside. Or if I just want to get in some extra steps!

I did that slow increase and although I wasn't losing weight 5k used to be a chore and now 10k steps is so easy and I loft weights too. I just feel better altogether.
