He turned a relatively small role in the books into one of the most powerful leading characters in the movies. Thank you Bernard I never met you but I won’t forget you

It's almost impossoble to overstate just how incredible Bernard Hill's performance was as Theoden. He so perfectly portrayed a king desperate to bring honor to his forefathers. A man who did his duty to the end despite facing seemingly insurmountable odds. BH understood just how to walk the line between a man that's filled with self doubt and inadequacy, yet consumed by need to prove himself worthy as a leader.

In a fantasy world Theoden was one of the more relatable characters. He had self doubt, he was mourning his son. He showed basic humanity and decency. This was helped by the underrated but great Bernard Hill
