But thankfully, this video makes understanding the different fiber types in your muscle much easier. If you like the 55 Min version of this video, this is the condensed answer.

You can me post wayyyyyy more awesome health, exercise, muscle, and performance science stuff on my social media @DrAndyGalpin.

And don't forget to subscribe and share this video with all of your awesome friends!

Perhaps from an evolutionary standpoint, when an individual is sedentary the greatest potential threat that a muscle would need to be able to respond to would be an emergency situation or "faster twitch" situation. Just a thought, big fan doc keep it up thanks

Very well explained, doctor! Thank you for this! 🙌

Thank you Dr. Galpin for the free information!

Interesting. Id like to know what triggers the fibers to change. Not use, but what stimulus in the cell causes it. Perhaps as a way to grow slow twitch for more power.

As I understand it, the amount of mitochondria you have in the cell determines whether it is either slow or fast twitch on a gradient. You can cause mitochondria division through diet.

Does the development and function of different fiber types have implications for training variety? Meaning, if I want to do different types of workouts with the goal of well-rounded fitness (strength, endurance, hypertrophy, cardio, etc) do some conflict with each other (like the concern with doing too much cardio when hypertrophy training), is there always a trade off or are there benefits to combining some types of workouts, or just what's the relationship in general?

one thing I want to get a handle on. you say that 2x fibers really cannot be trained, but we know athletes can improve things such as their sprint speed or jump height, and it can be done with methods like plyometrics which rely on very quick stimuli to get the results. is there something about the involvement on 2x fibers here that I am missing, or is it that 2A fibers are much more heavily recruited in these activities than most out there would have you believe?

Do those types of fibers have different "fuel" preference (as in energy source), and are they completely dependent on those "fuel" preferences or they vary on other sources as well?

And thanks for the great video(lecture)❤

Dr. Galpin, would you be so kind to talk about the different forms of magnesium?
I'm taking magnesium aspartate (just for general health, 450mg) but I'm worried because I found out that in that form it could act as a neurotoxin, what do you know about that?
Great videos, Thanks

What if you don’t have IIX - No actn3?

took a DNA test I got the rarest type of muscle genetics (not a good thing) I got TT which means Im either all or mostly slow twitch. I have been wondering what this means for going into hypertrophy. Im not expecting to look like ronnie coleman or Cbum im not delusional but if its gonna be almost impossible to to put on significant muscle whats the point pf weight training. I also thought that was wierd that i got that muscle composition ive always been significantly stronger than most people from childhood to adulthood.

So are your inner core muscles slow twitch?

Is there any possible way to get type 2b fibers??? It would be a dream come true

3 years later, have you found out anything new regarding this??

Is it correct that Dark meat in a bird is fast twitch and white is slow? Is it also true that the color is due to the amount of Mitochondria, Dark having more?

This does not help in any training. Interesting but not really helpful nor applicable.
