I work with kids that are 5 years old and there is a child that will throw herself on the floor and cry if you tell her No hitting friends. Then she complains to her mom that she got yelled at Today. Ugh. Gentle parents are the worse!

I told my 16 month old “no” today when he threw his ball at the tv. He cried for a few seconds, I hugged him and said “you can’t throw things at mummy’s tv”, gave him a toy and he ran away happily. Being told “No” is a part of life

It’s never too early to teach boundaries. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. No means no. It doesn’t mean they aren’t loved, it doesn’t make them any less special, it just means no. It’s a boundary, not an insult. Kids will catch on if you consistently remind them of this.

Jokes aside tho', you need to say 'no' to your children time-to-time. That goes for all the parents out there.

Kids need to hear the word “no.” They need consistency and to be held accountable. It teaches them patience and how to delay gratification. It helps them self regulate and work through disappointment. Saying no establishes boundaries and fosters resilient kids who will eventually be adults.
