As a Cypriot, I can say that our former leaders and the people forgot that there are different nationalities on the island and adopted a very nationalistic attitude.

also turkey’s actions were based off of two treaties signed when cyprus gained its independence. it said that no country in the treaty (greece, the uk, or turkey) could try to intervene with the countries independence and can not try to unite the island with them. if they did military actions would be used.

The information given here is completely wrong.

The Island was temporarily given to Britain to ally against Russia. Britain has given it to greece later. However, there was two nationalities in the island so the goventment was supposed to have representations of two of them. Greece erased Turkish representations from the govenment and allowed a coup destroying and killing Turkish citizens. As a result, Turkiye took control some portion of the Istand and cleaned the coup remnants giving a safe zone for its nationals. Captured part is only its population ratio.

In 2000s, with an UN agreemtent, Turkish part of Cprus has voted "YES" to join the United Cyrus. However, the greek part did vote "NO". Greeks don't want to get united anymore and leaving that part to Turkish Cprus.

Actually, you were wrong about the Turkey issue. Before 1960, they were giving Turks asylum there, but in the 1960s, the Turks there carried out an operation called "Operation Peace". With this, all the Turks in Cyprus flocked there.
