The current building was designed by Peddle Thorp architects which resembles a ship moored to the river it was opened in January year 2000.The depth of the building at its centre is a world first 2,200,000-litre 'oceanarium in the round' .
Currently Melbourne Aquarium extends from the Yarra River to Flinders Street. It features exhibits with king penguins and gentoo penguins, Antarctic fish.
Melbourne Aquarium's owners, Merlin Entertainments, rebranded it as a Sea Life Centre .
Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is a Southern Ocean and Antarctic aquarium in central Melbourne, which is located on the banks of the Yarra River beside and under the Flinders Street Viaduct and the King Street Bridge , Victoria , Australia.
