Crazy that they stopped making these. This was their best laptop for anyone actually needing a truly portable laptop. The video is a good test, but the advice to get the Pro is just wrong. You can clearly feel it in your bag after days of carrying it around.

I own both and tend to always pick up the MacBook over the Pro. Just easier to lob in a bag when I need a mac on the move. Which IMHO far outweighs having an extra USB C and slightly larger track pad. It's what the MacBook was designed for. I'm suspect on the speakers being better too on a Pro. I rate the speakers on a MacBook as good as a pro.

Great review! Pretty honest too! I was just wondering which one to buy and you helped me. Most reviewers don't take into account that the MB costs as much as the MBP, don't know why they do that.

I was shopping for something light, I already have a Dell laptop that's pretty heavy. I needed something light I can run and the macbook was just that thing for me, and the turn off was the 128gb as with the weight on the macbook pro. I will say though, I have an HP x360 that for a 3rd of the price of the macbook, excels at storage, touch (touchscreen, use it for drawing), and sound (Bang & Olufsen). But I'm mixing OS's here, I'm in the tech field so I need both OS's and I just liked the macbook. Everyone has their preference.

I actually had this debate with myself, 12" or pro... Same money so i went with performance... Now i feel stupid. Not that it doesn't satisfy me, it's just it is kinda heavy, and none of my heavy excel or coding stresses it out, on the other hand playing games on it is a joke. So for me, the pro is lost in the gaps of serious performance and portability since it's heavy. also battery is roughly 5 hours and like i said, i don't stress it. I would trade with a 12" i5 2017 head to head right now. speakers is the only bummer since they got me spoiled... I don't see how someone with performance in mind is considering the mcb.

Apple should have just dropped the storage down to 128 on this MacBook too to make it 100$ cheaper, since they just did it for the 13 inch MacBook Pro anyways. I know and would recommend most people to bump up to at least 256 anyways but mentally the lineup would look more reasonable to people if the MacBook started at 1200$ since the pro is now 1300$

The 12" MacBook is so ridiculously overpriced for what it offers, it just beggars belief! The base model should sell for no more than $999. I reckon that would increase both interest and sales of this product by quite a large margin.
