Sumo’s version of March Madness, the Spring Tournament, has kicked off in Osaka. As expected, the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium is packed with passionate fans eager to witness the opening-day action and the fierce battles ahead.
The biggest spotlight this time is undoubtedly on newly promoted Yokozuna Hoshoryu. Now the lone Yokozuna, he carries immense pressure to perform at the highest level. Once the hunter, he is now the hunted. Can he handle the hype and live up to expectations as sumo’s top dog?
But don’t overlook the two Ozeki, Onosato and Kotozakura. Both are determined to challenge Hoshoryu and stake their own claims for Yokozuna promotion. They’ll do everything they can to keep him from cruising to another championship.
Beyond the top ranks, there are plenty of wrestlers to watch in Osaka. Newly promoted Sekiwake Oho is looking to make his mark, while Aonishiki has stormed into the Makuuchi division at record-breaking speed.

What's interesting is that Hōshōryū is being taught the "Unryū" dohyō-iri by Musashimaru who is Hawaiian, just like his uncle, Asashōryū, who was taught the same style by Akebono, another Hawaiian.

Great coverage! Chiyoshoma is fighting his best right now. It's impressive. Abi is at his best when underestimated. Ironically his inconsistency plays into that strength. How many times has a new Yokozuna lost his first match I wonder?
