I played this on guitar at my Mom's funeral with my niece on vocals. When she became overcome with emotion and couldn't continue, I started singing even though I didn't have a mic, and one by member of the congregation joined in with the entire attendance finishing the song. My cousin who presided as Pastor that day, got up afterwards and said...."That's who we are, we don't leave each other behind." - It was a moment I will cherish for the rest of my old days.

I'm typing thru my tears because all these years and I never realized what this song was about. I too thought it was about the loss of a romantic relationship. I had this album when it came out and all this time I didn't get it until your first stop and you said it.
I always went out of my way to spend time with my parents, talked to them both multiple times a day, told them I loved them all the time and even said I'm not going to be one of those people with regrets.
I bought my Mom yellow roses for Easter a few years ago and planted them in her front yard, first time i ever planted anything. A week later she died unexpectedly.
A year after I lost Mom, my Dad died unexpectedly, although I know it was because he didn't want to live without her. His last words were telling me "I love you" then he looked up, said "her name is (her maiden name)" then he smiled and died.
The following year my brother, 5 years younger than me, died unexpectedly.
Yeah, you kinda broke me with this song Jamal, and in an odd way, I thank you for that.
Also my name isn't Suzi, Suzi was my Mom's nickname.
