They could've at least cleaned the darn bowl before you got there.

Give that wax a turn back and forth so it sticks, it’s the way we’ve always done it. Good work!

I clean my own toilet before doing work on it, people really don’t have any idea what courtesy and cleanliness is.

First 15 years of career I put wax ring on bowl. The next 23 I’ve put on the flange not a difference.

I have probably installed thousands of toilets over the past 20 years and always put the wax ring on the flange, never had a problem.

Manufacturers recommended putting wax on toilet so they don't get complaints when someone misses the wax on the flange and blocks the outlet.

I used to be a plumber in the uk. We don’t use a wax seal at all.

The majority of our pans have a horizontal outlet. We attach a pan connector with a rubber seal one end that goes over the outlet. The other end that goes into the soil pipe has a rubber finned connector. These pan connectors can be straight or bent depending on whether the soil pipe is in the floor or in the wall. I’m the majority of cases, we can replace a pan connector without even turning off the water but draining some of the water out of the bowl is a good idea.

Funny we in Germany use Rubber Connectors it's always interesting to see how things are done in other countries.

I'm an apartment maintenance technician for the past 7 years. Every time I've ever pull the toilet I've always put it on the floor centered it and then put the toilet on it. I've never had a problem

Yep... On the bowl flange. Common error that leads to leakage. The gasket will stick better to the bowl flange if you warm it first.

i used a small face mirror against the back wall and slowly lowered the toilet into the perfect space . Been installed for months now, no leaks

Those instructions are made people sitting at a desk. I’m going to keep doing it the way it’s been working for me all my life

25 Year contractor here. I put it on the flange. I've replaced hundreds of toilets pver the years, and serviced the same properties for decades. I've had zero issues using this method.

When you put the wax ring on the bowl, give it a light press in a twisting motion…that wax ring won’t fall off during install. Also awesome to see you’re using a large wax ring without a “horn”. So many guys swear by those and they’re only intended to be used when the flange is lower than the surface of the floor.

What type of wrench did you use for the water hose conector?
