Chinese President Xi Jinping Calls on CPC Members to Study, Practice Marxist Thoughts

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday urged members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to continue studying and practicing the thoughts of German philosopher Karl Marx.

Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a gathering to mark the 200th anniversary of Marx's birth at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

He said that CPC members should study and practice Marxist thoughts on a number of subjects, including the law of the development of human society, the people-centered philosophy, the productive force and the relations of production.

He also called on CPC members to study Marxist ideas on people's democracy, cultural development, social construction, relations between humans and nature, world history, and the building of the party.

Marx was born in Trier, Germany on May 5, 1818. As a philosopher, economist and historian, he left the world a lasting legacy.
