Going from Mean Mark Callous to The Undertaker really isn't an upgrade in gimmicks. On paper, the original Undertaker gimmick is one of the dumbest characters ever created.

"So check it out! You'll be an undead zombie that works as a mortician by day and is a professional wrestler at night. You won't talk, you'll move really slow, and you'll have about 6 moves in your repertoire. Oh, and we want you to wear these grey, knee-high socks with matching grey dishwashing gloves."

The gimmick is trash but still got over bc of how amazing it was portrayed. I dare say that anyone else would have flubbed it.

This basically shows that it's not the number of filppity flops you can do that makes a wrestler, but the character itself. No matter how athletic you are, if your character is just another generic uber-athletic show stealer, you won't get far
