Don't worry John you don't need you to tell me about this... It happened to me with a shiny scyther I was far enough away that it would despawn but at the same time so close. This is also how I learnt that you will attack ANY Pokemon, even shiny ones.

Not only that, but you can trick your friends who are shiny hunting in a union.
I had this idea a few days ago but it didn't work since my friends kept moving around and I couldn't keep track. But the next group, I and another guy were shiny hunting for Scizor.
We thought it was immediate because we saw a shiny one, thought it was glitches when we couldn't fight it and just phased through it, then found it it was a friend using the Sync machine.
