I am confounded by the fact that a significant portion of the Republican Voter Base are dependent on Social Security and Medicare, and Republican Lawmakers are determined to axe those programs. If they succeed, it'll be like Dobbs all over again. Moreover, pretty much all of the elderly in America will be put at risk. Imagine the financial burden if suddenly all those people have to move out of nursing homes because they can no longer pay for them through Social Security and Medicare. If they have any place to go, it'll be back to their adult children, who are already overly burdened financially. Even if that backfired on Republican Lawmakers in the end, the damage by the time the next election cycle rolls around will be catastrophic.
