This is a logical fallacy. Politics is how we organize society and the majority opinion on any issue is how we end up with laws that are created, enforced and changed by the separation of powers and the people we elect. If a society grants freedom of speech and religion, everybody needs to be willing to compromise. You can vote based on your religious believes and the interpretation of its values but so can other groups in a democratic society - so secularism is considered the solution. If one religious group wants to change the system in their interests, religious freedom for others is no longer guaranteed and this ends in the collapse of the democratic values. The only religion that fails globally to do this is Islam, but there are believers of every faith who flatter themselves to understand best what everyone needs. The abortion law of the US is an example of the consequences. I understand that the US was colonized by Christians and that even a democratic state will reflect these values and its culture to some extent. But solving abortion is simple, important and necessary. I don’t know how the US ended up with _fetal viability_ as the latest time abortion limit in some states while it’s illegal in almost half the states. That is crazy and clearly not in the interest of women and society as a whole. The right to life of the mould growing in your bathroom is just as God-given as a few cells that are comparable to a cyst (a lot of women need to surgically remove cysts at some point in their life) but like most countries, the US should set the limit for week 6-12, some states allow more than double that period which is crazy. It would certainly help to find common ground.

Your argument is a nothing burger, it’s not about disagreeing with others but to keep it fair to those that don’t follow the same beliefs. For example, If the US was a Muslim nation then people would have to follow the Quran and have to pray 5 times a day which wouldn’t be fair to you or me. In context it’s to stop religion base answers from interfering with decision that may effect everyone. However, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and respecting others goes a long way from either the left or right side of the political spectrum.
