Have you had Menu del Dia before?

This concept came about during the Franco regime. He thought low-cost fixed meals would be the best way to attract tourists to Spain.

At first, restaurants were rightfully angry they had to offer three courses on a very low budget. But they got good at getting creative with ingredients. The meals are made to be hearty, tasty, easy, and fresh. The plan worked and tourists started coming taking advantage of this deal. But over time it became way more popular with locals as an affordable and quick way to get a good meal.

Things to know about Menu del Dia if you want to try it in Spain:
🗓️ Menu del dia is only offered during the week (no weekends) normally from 1 to 3:30/4. 3:00 is the peak time to eat lunch though.

🍷1 drink is included with your meal which can be wine. But NOT water and wine or coffee. If you order coffee or water as well, you'll be charged.

🥘 The menu changes daily so you never really know what you're going to get. Most have the day's menu posted outside to see if it appeals to you.

🥖 Not everywhere will offer this. You need to ask or look for a menu posted outside saying, Menu del Dia. They are usually less common in super touristy areas but you can find them for sure!

💶 Prices vary but you can expect to pay €13 - €17 per person for menu del dia.
