It's very purposeful. On my land in ancient aboriginal culture the only person to carry the fire stick was a aboriginal girl named Alinta. She reminds me of how significant basic survival skills are

I love this! Partly because flint and steel was the first thing I (re-)learned from you, and also I love the way the flickering light and colours reflect on you. Thank you Bjørn 🏡

Making a fire is a very important skill to have especially in a society where more and more is being taken away from us

Another way to start fires when in a pine forest is to look for pine stumps that are older and starting to decompose. You will see the resin or pitch soaked wood, which is a precursor of turpentine. Cut some slivers out, use them like matches or kindling.

It's amazing how you always share with us the connection of the past to the present. Fire doesn't change we do in our relationship to our surroundings. Thank you ❤

I wish I were lucky enough to be somewhere I could comfortably wear a jacket come the end of June. Also, great firemaking practice.

I think this should be a part if most school curriculum. Making fire by flint and steel or by friction is really empowering. It might not seem like a big deal if you live in a rural area but for most urban people it's an eye opener.

At the start, notice the little black bit of cotton square. It is partly charred and will light quickly.

That's the bit the sparks fell on, then he quickly put the cloth fragment into the bundle and started blowing to generate flames

My favourite method of lighting a fire from making the steel out of an old file, finding the flint in the earth to making the char cloth.
