In this video we'll check out my new dedicated 1987 Nintendo R-Type arcade game. R-Type was developed by IREM in Japan and distributed by Nintendo in the USA. R-Type is one of the early SHMUPS that really helped define the genre. The game has amazing graphics and sounds, and is INCREDIBLY hard. This is one hard game! I SUCK!

In this video we will cover:

#1 - How to replace arcade buttons on a control panel
#2 - How to drill a coin door lock on an arcade game
#3 - How to set dip switch settings for difficulty, freeplay, etc.
#4 - A general tour of the R-type dedicated cabinet
#5 - R-Type gameplay review and overview

That glass has a layer of film on either side of it and that is actually what the name is carved into and not the glass itself. Also you can just key bump that lock it literally takes about 5 minutes to learn how to do and would be a lifesaver in the future.

I've only ever seen R-Type once or twice in the arcade, but I'm glad I played it then. It started a love affair with the series, though I sadly never saw an R-Type 2 arcade game. By the way, I did the math in my head with how much money the game took in. :)

The Journey cassette attract is okay, but nothing can compete with Pole Position's "Boop.  Boop.  Boop.

I lived in Monterrey Mexico for a year back in 1991 and R-Type is the only game at the local corner store. I must have spent many pesos on that thing because that was the only form of entertainment for an American teen in a foreign country.

Hearing the attract on the Journey over and over during this video I was forced to go play the song (on drums) after watching to get it out of my head :)

Hey John! I recently started watching a couple of weeks ago and have become a huge fan. I'm learning a lot watching your videos. You should try to get a Polybius cabinet next! ;D
