Recorded some side-by-side gameplay of Apex Legends in a VM and a bare metal. Same hardware.

VFIO is pretty awesome. It's the Linux driver that allows us to pass a graphics card into a VM for gaming performance.

I actually recommend playing in a VM for your own safety.
I just found out I can't play Battlefield 3 yesterday because I am banned presumably because some 3rd party anticheat tool detected some programming software on my computer while I was playing Battlefield 4 in 2017.
I tried to appeal the ban yesterday, but the 3rd party organisation that maintains the list is already defunct, so the only way I could still play is making a smurf account.
The less access the anti cheat has to your files the better because you're just unnecessarily opening yourself up to false positives.

Modern warfare and black ops cold war work just fine.

if I'm not misunderstanding this, you're getting better fps in a VM through Linux than native windows gaming?
what are your specs?

Thanks for making this video, I thought this would let me fully switch to linux but then I found out that oculus is barely usable/isn't usable 99% of the time :( so ig I'll dual boot

great video! does apex legends still work through a VM? it's the only game holding me back from making the full switch to linux!
