FINAL FANTASY VI is my favorite game of all time! So when I looked up TOP 5 FACTS ABOUT FF6, I was floored so I made this TOP 5 FACTS about the game. I already knew about HIRONOBU SAKAGUCHI stepping back for a little while during the DEVELOPMENT OF FF6, but to learn about how YOSHINORI KITASE directed the game and took on bigger roles within SQUARE ENIX to make this game work was really something! I mean he also created the characters CELES and GAU while Sakaguchi himself had great influence over characters like TERRA and LOCKE! TETSUYA NOMURA, better known for his role in the KINGDOM HEARTS SERIES also created characters like SHADOW and SETZER! FF6 also has my favorite SOUNDTRACK of all time, composed by none other than the man himself NOBUO UEMATSU! I'm still surprised that the SUPER FAMICOM and SUPER NINTENDO could handle the power of this cart! Good job, SQUARE ENIX!

Spoony is not a bad or weird translation.

Look up the word "spoony" it's old timey slang that essentially means overly emotional. Telleh is supposed to be practically ancient, it would make sense he would use old timey slang. And Edward is in fact, a spoony bard.

I did not think I could have more respect for Woolsey but you just told me he did this localization on a 30 day deadline.

I will hear NO disrespect on this man's name ever for the rest of time holy shit what a legend

My #1 favorite game of all time. Not just Final Fantasy game, but GAME. I spent hours on this back in the day. Hours, days, months! It was also the first game soundtrack I ever purchased, having used the included order card. I'll never forget the day it arrived and I could hear one of the discs sliding around inside the case. NIGHTMARE FUEL! Fortunately it was okay and I still have my original copy of Kefka's Domain!

My fan theory for the game is that Kefka is Bahram, and lost most his memory/mind/etc during the multitude of magicite experiments... the timeline matches up, but moreover it helps explain why Shadow is almost always near Kefka during parts of the story, he's keeping an eye on him. Shadow is the one who tries to stop Kefka on the floating continent, and after Kefka finally dies Shadow knows his job is done so he goes to rest on the collapsing tower.

That scrap of paper in the Returners Hideout is one of the few times you can see Terra actually laugh

I think Woolsey did a great job at localization. Certain things were altered, usually to conform to NOA censorship standards, and I think that he did the best that he could given the short deadline, and the ever present problem of cutting down the script to still fit on the cartridge when converted to English which requires more space to say the same things. The man is a legend.

People often cite Secret of Mana as an example of bad translation, but with the short time given and the cartridge space limitations (the game was originally being developed for CD and had to be heavily cut down to fit on a cartridge when that fell through, and you can definitely feel that later in the game where it is obvious things had to be rushed and condensed, and then the localization itself had to undergo a similar process) it is a miracle that we got what we did.

Sure, he took some liberties, but I quite enjoyed them. It's funny how Frog from Chrono Trigger talks in a "ye olde" type of way even though no one else from the same time period talks that way. If you notice, in the flashbacks of when he was still human he talked like everyone else. It makes me wonder then if his manner of speaking, though an artifact of the localization at the end of the day, was caused by the curse that turned him into a frog, or if it is something he picked up for reasons unknown. It helps him stand out more distinctly in a game where so much is conveyed through text and limited animations, so I don't think taking liberties like that is always a bad thing, especially when in English the process of giving a character a different tone or manner of speaking is different than in other languages. That's one reason I prefer the original SNES script.

Here's to you, Woolsey, and all of your immortal Woolseyisms.

The creators of FFVII went on the record saying that Cait Sith is pronounced Kate Sith, NOT Ket Shee, like in Irish folklore

It's amazing how fantastic games can be made with so few people. It shows that most games don't NEED 3000 devs, photo realistic graphics, and 100% voice acting to be good.

Subscribed! Really interesting videos. I'm 34, and I first played FF6 as a 7 or 8-year old. At the time, I didn't have the guts to get through Kefka's tower and face him. Years passed and I never sought to beat Kefka once and for all. It became a game "forgotten in the mists of time". But the characters always stuck with me... This morning Asia time, I finally finished FF6! It's been my "LOTR before I knew what LOTR was", and I'm really happy to see a vibrant community including creators like you The Returners' Hideout still talking about this masterpiece.

I like the idea of Celes also being unstable due to Magitek poisoning. It would have given more insight into Kefka's motivations if we saw someone in the party struggling with the same symptoms.

I freaking love this game. I played it as FFIII on the SNES as a kid. Great video! I've never seen your channel before, but I am now subscribed!

A final fantasy video by someone who can’t say ‘final fantasy’ is an interesting concept

While Ted Woolsey's work did become controversial for awhile, I think most people who grew up with the series in the SNES era now agree it's acquired something of a narm charm and, regardless of what's technically accurate, you have to tip your hat to the old son of a submariner.

Wow! Fantastic! One of my favorite games, and I didn't know these facts! I only knew about the terra-garbage moment, the 1 year development, and cid-airship moment.

I know a lot about FF6, but hadn’t heard of any of these. Nice video!

Also, commenting for the algorithm.

FF3/6 is my favorite game of all time! I can only hope for a proper remake, that does justice to the original! That said, I wish that they had kept the feature where Strago directs the building of a town! It's have been so cool to have the characters have a base of sorts, besides the airships! And for the player to get at least some control over things such as the looks and layout of the town! As well as the people that are invited/approved to live there! Sort of like Township, in Breath of Fire 2!!! Anyhow! Great video! I'm always impressed when YouTubers share new knowledge about my favorite game! Especially since it's been out for around 30 years! Now I need to go dig out the SNES Mini, to put some FF3/6 play time in! It's been a couple of years now!
