It is important to be very gentle when handling these. You CAN simply let it crawl on you, but if you try to grab it or pick it up, you lose. They make a low squeaking sound before they start whipping out the 1/2 inch stinger. It is considered the 4th worst sting in the insect world

I grew up in Arizona, in Chino Valley, and I remember a red body bug like this that made a fairly loud hissing type sound, or like an air squeezing sound when you pissed them off or stepped on them... I wonder if this is the bug... the round red lower body part kind of looks like it
