How the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Theme Dropped a Key Clue to the Season 1 Whodunnit

The Emmy-nominated Siddhartha Khosla describes the catchy earworm theme music of the “Only Murders in the Building” as “a melody with these bouncy chords.”

That melody with catchy chords, made the show’s creator John Hoffman feel “mystery, drama, lonely and happy,’ Khosla says in a conversation for Variety’s Artisans, presented by HBO.

Happy-lonely is exactly the vibe of this score, and it’s perfect. May they have a hundred seasons and never change it. It’s a song that hears you, and those are very rare.

The guy who did the music for Serial claimed that Siddhartha ripped him off. But I listened to the theme and literally the only thing they have in common is jangly piano stabs. This is a wholly original piece and it's beautiful. The Serial guy needs to chill.
