GMC YUKON or Chevy Tahoe Liftgate Won't Open! Problem Solved!!

What is going on!!! Why doesn't my liftgate work or open, ahhhh! Well you might have a jam or your motor might have stopped working. But an easy solution to get your liftgate open is to use this tip in the video. Then you can assess and figure out what needs to be done next. Apparently GM left a way to release the door so you would not be stuck with a closed door. Thanks GMC!

Great video! Before I drilled I spent a few minutes jiggling the handle and got it open (no drilling necesary). Cleaned the lock mechanism and all around the lift gate. Silicone grease spray on the lift gate mechanism and works like a charm!

Perfect instructions for a timely problem on my 2012 Yukon XLT, same issue. Circle was right there and I drilled it out with a 1/4" bit. The only problem I ran into was I had I could unlatch it, but had to push a foot on it to open it (it's heavy). Once opened, I used compressed air to blow out all the connections and sure enough, it works great now. This video saved me some $, no need to go to the stealership.

this video saved my ass... just bought a 2007 Yukon Denali xl and this happened about two weeks after i got it... i went to the back and apparently they already had an issue, cuz there was a hole already drilled... i still have trouble finding the sweet spot to open it... had to use a screwdriver about five times already... came back to this video to see if there was anything i missed... going down instead of straight across was a big help... thanks for the video.... maybe a follow up video about what you're actually pushing with the screwdriver?

Thanks for the video! I was able to drill the hole and get the gate open with a screwdriver. HOWEVER, once I shut it again, I'm still unable to open the gate via the button on the back and/or the key fob. I think I'll need to buy a new mechanism, just need to find the part #.

You kick the bumper, and the wife jumps out, opens the lift gate, puts the groceries in, gives you a beer, problem solved! I saw it in a video one time.

I had open and now that I took off the screws to take off trunk it closed on me and it won't open now anymore with screwdriver

On a 2007 gmc yukon. My back hatch opens electrical. But someone took their hand and messed my hatch up. The motor is trying to get my hatch up and dorm but for some reason the teeth aren't doing their job. So what can be the problem

No holes needed, try pushing the lift gate inward and holding while you press button to allow to unhook. In this case the debris you had on the base was not allowing it enough clearance to unhook. Its happened to me when i have overloaded the rear with cargo and has pushed the liftgate door outward tightly not allowing it to unhook. You can also try the master switch by the garage controllers, there is two buttons. One is for the glass only and the other is for the entire liftgate. They are labeled with pics.
