Prototype PS5
A PS5 “PROTOTYPE 2” console, with a design similar to that of PS5 devkits we have seen before, has been put up for sale on Yahoo auctions Japan, with a starting bidding price of JPY 800’000 (about $5500).

I was expecting the page to be taken down relatively quickly, but it is still up at the time of this writing, with the auction set to expire later today. As of the time of this writing, nobody has placed a bid on the auction yet.

What are PS5 Prototype consoles?
These prototypes are early models of the console that are sent possibly to manufacturers or developers ahead of the console’s retail release, to get an idea of the functionality of the device. We assume they differ from devkits in that they run an even earlier version of the firmware, and hardware might not be finalized yet.
It is not clear to me what the differences might be between Prototype 1 (which has been seen in the past with picture leaks) and Prototype 2, except them being different revisions.

Price Drop:
Sony is not struggling to sell PS5 consoles this year, as it’s been breaking records all over the world since the hardware became more readily available. It’s conspicuous, then, that the traditional disc-based unit is actually on sale in some major European territories, including Spain and Portugal. And this discount isn’t a small one either: it’s €100, meaning you can currently get the Blu-ray version of the console for around the same price as its digital counterpart.

While the sale seems pretty specific to certain countries, the big question here is why would PlayStation reduce the price of a very popular product? Many believe that it’s related to the rumoured detachable disc drive model that’s been a strong source of speculation all year, and is apparently scheduled to launch in September. It does make some degree of sense that the Japanese giant would look to clear out old stock before introducing the new model.

The unit with a detachable disc drive will attempt to unify Sony’s manufacturing process, allowing it to produce both flavours of its new-gen console on the same production line. Furthermore, it promises to provide consumers with more flexibility, as those who choose to purchase a system without a disc drive will still be able to pick one up separately later down the line. Thus, it seems like a smart step for the platform holder in this increasingly digital age.

It’s unlikely the company will announce the hardware revision until right before its release date, as it won’t want to temporarily impede sales over the summer. These discounts across Europe do suggest something is afoot, however, and may become more widespread as we lurch closer to the crucial holiday season.

I still have my PS4... can't seem to let it go. Sony is losing money from their exclusive PS5 games when most of us still have ps4

What you are calling a PS5 Prototype, normally was named Development Kit. If you search for PS3 Development Kit, PS4 Development Kit, etc. you will find how different the Development Kits are vs how the end product is. It's normal for the Development Kit to be completely different and have a lot of more Input/Output ports so Developers can push the limits on how much they can push the hardware and report back to Sony. That allows Sony to plan ahead of what was more used among the developers and from there Sony decides what stays in the final product and what can be used as a future accessory.

The PS5 disc model in Australia has been dropped by $100 (AUD) I assumed it had something to do with a sale then I remembered one of your videos saying they want to essentially get rid of the original models. Interestingly enough I don't see anything around about the digital only pricing. The X in RPSX could mean they are gonna try a one stop shop for PS emulation.

I don't know about Portugal but here in Spain we did get the 50€ increase (so disc was 550 and digital was 450) and now most disc models are on sale for 450€, and I'm gonna wait for the slim just in case it's smaller (which i could really use) or has more storage

10:33 PS4 game Senran Kagura EV doesn't play good on the PS5 & I'm pretty sure there's other PS4 games that doesn't play well on the PS5. I thought by now there would have been an update to fix this issue, but I guess not.

I play games like I'm channel surfing. Which is pretty easy with the current load times. I've been probably paying a little more attention to FF 16 lately though. It's a really fun game.

Be honest I rather my PS4 then 5. Can hold more then 3 games is the biggest reason. I mean for 600 I shouldn't have to shell out another 300 for enough space for 4 plus games. 😂

for the amount of space there is in these controllers, they should have like double the battery life of a high end smart phone. Their batteries are tinny.

It was sold. And Sony has an activation key for the PS5 dev kits. So its more of a collection piece.
