You should go back a bit farther in time to include Joe Cocker's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends." As much as. I love the original Beatles version on Pepper, Joe makes the song his own in his soul classic of it.

The undisputed king of making cover songs his own is without doubt Bryan Ferry. His Lennon tribute of Jealous Guy was no 1 in late 1980.
