For those who don’t know Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have a podcast, The Office Ladies, where they’re rewatching and analyzing every episode of the show. When they did this episode they received a story from a woman about this cold open. The women’s daughter was born with severe medical problems (I think it was her heart) and had to have extensive surgery. And during her recovery this scene was the only thing that would cheer her up. She said that she and her daughter watched this cold open well over 1, 000 times because it always made her smile.

Every time I rewatch this scene, I appreciate something different each time! Whether it is Jim's awkward dance, Andy being invested in the performance despite Dwight holding a knife to his neck, Erin's enthusiasm, Michael's pride in his magic or Kelly and Ryan's argument, there is always something going on in this opening to make me keep coming back and watching it.
