I'd change 8 to try to have fun... Monster hunter is a lot of games wrapped up in 1. Meta chasing is 1 way to play, but there are tons of goofy, fun ways to play the game that have nothing to do with meta. There are even bomb only runs that increasingly funny. Your palicos can also be fun, you can run builds that can have them basically solo some monsters, and watching them work can be really interesting. Don't worry about what people on the internet say, gear-up, and enjoy yourself...

A good tip with fights is positioning, an example is being beside a rathian compared to being in front of her since here attacks are much faster and more instant than the one on the sides meaning you have a better chance of reacting to her attacks

A big tip is to use tailraiders whenever possible (especially the troupers, gajalaka, and boaboa). They won't kill the monster for you without a seriously specialized build but they're a huge help when it comes to pacing by taking the monster off of you for a moment.

Take a break when frustrated. Only play the weapon that suit you. Maybe watch or re-watch class videos. DO THE FRIGGIN CLUTCH CLAW QUEST which explains both tenderize and FLINCH SHOT for free knockdown and head part break! Enjoy the game. Dont be shy about gathering. Read up about loadouts and which items to use on hunts.

Haven't seen you in a min...I remember your AT Nergi run in base game way back when.

Gotta admit with my 3K hours into this game i've never thought of using max Evasion to learn dodge timings to the point where you don't need it anymore, that's pretty smart tbh thank you for the insight

Great tips!

One thing I've found that's helpful to me with learning new weapons is restarting a new save file each time I try a new one (file 2 is my experimentation file and gets restarted regularly). This lets me feel the early game progression of each weapon individually, makes me use "tutorial" monsters to learn positioning and timing, and makes me target different armor each time for relevant skills. Then after I've practiced through a bunch of the story, I go back to my main save file and make an endgame build for the weapon.
Two caveats:
1. The cutscenes make this a long process.
2. Some weapons aren't really comfortable without certain armor skills that don't come easy early in the game (such as Mighty Bow skill, or Reload Speed/Recoil Down for bowguns).

I faced Fatalis for the first time this weekend and he put me over the edge. I turned off the game and while eating dinner I contemplated going back to sunbreak. Then I emptied my thoughts and went into a state of pure enlightenment. After dinner I fired up the ps5 and proceeded to cart without frustration to Fatalis. I was learning the fight at a geometric rate. Sunday night I soloed him I went into “fade to black” and beat him again. This is the only game that sent me into a state of madness followed by going into another plane of existence achieving pure enlightenment.

Last tip is what makes so many people fall in love with monster hunter ❤ it actually rewards us for not giving up, instead of bullshitting our brain with feel-good press-to-win mechanics.

It truly feels like achieving something with your own hands, and the gratification is so immense. It lasts for 4 or 5 monster hunter games.

That last tip is a big one for me, my biggest wall right now is the Alatreon Special Assignment. I've lost count of how many times I've attempted it and I have only come close to beating him, (at least I think) even gotten many S.O.S responses with a full team and have still been carted fully. The experience allowed me to beat the second Assignment where you fight a halved HP Alatreon to get to Fatalis, but that first one is still looming over my head. Ended up getting enough parts from it to make and upgrade the Glaive though XD

are you planning on making a new guide for the guiding lands? I'd love to see your take on it. Ive been enjoying your videos recently with the new mhw playthrough

Yea add on to 8 for not giving up, step back after failing or even winning and ask urself what could I have done better, was I dodging to little to much, was I leaving myself open for attack during my moves(CB), and is there a deco that can solve my issue I'm having. When you stop and ask yourself questions anyone is capable of learning from what they did. When I was learning AT Valkhana I lost quite a few times using CB so much I'd get mad or ill, then I stopped and said what am I doing wrong, then it clicked for me, that I wasn't sheathing my weapon enough to be quick to reposition during savage axe, now I beat her in about 10mins compared to the 27mins I use to get.

I would consider adding as a tip as well is do optional/guiding lands. Along with unlocking food items, you also unlock equipment and unlock augments to help in hunts. It can surprise people how a heal augment can save on hunts.

The best tip i have is recognizing the slinger ammo and what it does, what ammo is and isnt effective against certain monsters, and where/how you find slinger ammo, it can get you out of so many situations

O.O the bit about Tigrex and younger brother on freedom unite was EXACTLY what I did with my brother!! :D . We accidently stuck his teeth in the wall.. and that was the OMG moment.

Beat nergigante for the second time after first quest is such a joy. All the cart carries are worth it

I personally disagree with the very first tip. Learning how to roll through roars is realistic, but almost everything else simply isn’t. This is due to the fact, that you have 13 iframes without any Evade Window skill and a lot of hitboxes of monster attacks stay active for more frames than your own iframes, so you literally can’t dodge them, even if you do a frame perfect roll.

This is what Evade Window is for. You either use the dodge roll as a repositioning tool to get out of an attack, or you use evade window to dodge through them.

I found that unless you’re using the Palico to the best of its capabilities, it’s better to just not use them at all. I had a semi useless palico when I switched to PC, whose only purpose was to prevent me from being carted once. I wasn’t gearing him or getting better items. But he has monster aggro half the time and it was annoying. I learned monster attacks and queues better when it’s always focused on me

My main mhw:I save looks like I’ve pretty much only played great sword, but I make a new save to learn how to use weapons, do not use a full build to learn a weapon as it makes it where you’re used to something like more flinching, or quicker attacks, unless you’re trying bowguns, they’re not fun at all unless you have a build
