First, you can't talk about quarantine movies and not include Right at Your Door (2006). Not really about a virus or contagion, but it's definitely about being quarantined. Also there's a cool little twist at the end.

Second, I just watched Outbreak and Contagion last night back to back. I love Outbreak. Also largely because it's such a 90s movie and the reasons you mentioned here. Contagion, while I don't dislike it, I find to be way too unrealistic. That's ironic because it's definitely trying TO BE realistic. Maybe because it's trying to be realistic that I notice things aren't. For example they basically show that death can happen within 4 days of contact with the virus, with symptoms displaying the very next day. A virus like that wouldn't be able to spread very far.

Third, The Andromeda Strain (book) is fantastic and tied for my favourite book of all-time with Jurassic Park. Michael Crichton is my favourite author. Prey is also quite good. The 13th Warrior is also based on his book Eaters of the Dead. Sphere, Congo, and Timeline (among others) were also made into movies (books were better of course). The Andromeda Strain from the 70s is quite good. Stay away from the "remake" from the late 2000s. That was beyond terrible.

Fun fact: Michael Crichton wrote the screenplay for Twister.

Lastly, there is also the movie Carriers (2009) which you and I actually watched together at my house back in 2016 I think. I can't really remember anything from the movie, so maybe that means it's bad.
