🛑 PLEASE READ 🛑

Please do not try this movement without proper preparation. I like to explore within my movement practice and use Instagram to report my own journey while also educating, but not everything I share is for you to try!

We tend to want to copy every movement we see online. If there is a particular exercise I recommend I’ll make sure to give you the proper cues and preparatory exercises for it. In this case: don’t try this unless you know what you are doing.

I’ve seen this movement a few times and wanted to see if my body could handle it. I did a couple weeks of preparation with just dislocates and yesterday wanted to try going beyond the first spin.

What’s interesting is that the second spin is not about more shoulder mobility but about forearms and wrists. The entire upper and lower arm need to rotate a lot for you to keep the grip. It’s a massive force going through the forearms and wrists in a very deep range.

I felt I went a bit too far and my wrists are extremely sore today. This is why after testing the movement, I would never recommend this to most people (unless is under my full supervision for months!)

This is one of the main reasons why many calisthenics athletes get injured. We often try new movements that exceed our current capabilities and are not included in our regular training routine. Calisthenics itself is not the problem; rather, it is the approach that many individuals take. The excitement and curiosity to explore what we can achieve with our bodies can be either the greatest asset or the most significant downfall of bodyweight training.
