Zimbabwe has secured promotion to Davis Cup World Group II following outstanding performances by the country’s top players at the Group III Africa Qualifier tournament in Abuja Nigeria.

After starting their campaign with a disappointing 2-1 loss to the hosts Nigeria in the opening tie, the Zimbabwe team recovered to win four consecutive ties.

To Football.... Highlanders had another outstanding performance beating Bulawayo Chiefs 2-0 at Barbourfields.

A week after outclassing Dynamos away at Rufaro stadium, Highlanders followed it up with another 2-0 victory with the goals coming in from Marvin Sibanda and Peter Muduhwa.

Dynamos got a 1-0 win away to Hwange at the Colliery. Kevin Moyo who was frozen out last weekend against Highlanders on allegations of leading a players strike got the goal in the first half.

Shadreck Nyahwa and Frank Makarati who were not used against Highlanders as they were also fingered as the ring leaders of the strike, started against Hwange.

Godfrey Mukambi scored a second half goal to give Herentals a 1-0 win over CAPS United at Rufaro stadium.

Manica Diamonds were held to a goalless draw at home by TelOne.

FIFA will also cater for the Warriors coach's package and its understood the world Football governing body are set to splash USD$150 000 per year on the coach's salary

Let's talk Golf, Xander Schauffele held off the challenge of Justin Rose to win the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon. It is Schauffele's second major title in three months and he becomes the first player to win the Open and US PGA Championship in the same year since Rory McIlroy in 2014

Three birdies in his opening seven holes had put Rose briefly in the lead on six under, but Schauffele surged three clear of Rose with an electrifying run of five birdies in holes from the sixth

Formula 1, Oscar Piastri won a highly dramatic and controversial Hungarian Grand Prix for his first full win in Formula 1 after his teammate Lando Norris eventually heeded pleading messages from the McLaren Pit wall to cede a lead he had taken through their pit stop strategy.

The race also saw rivals Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton collide late on in the race fighting for a third position. Piastri overtook the pole-sitting Norris at the start and impressively cruised towards his first grand Prix win
