Topping D90se DAC Review

D90SE users should upgrade to the latest firmware(1.88). Added features and improved sound similar to the D90LE

I am very glad I found my way out of the “audiophile” maze and started researching science. Then studied and participated in double blind tests. Much happier overall once I found out how powerful the mind is in its bias. Also, have more money in my pocket as a byproduct.

I tried some lower end Topping stuff a while ago and didn't love it. I'd take the Bifrost 2 DAC for $200 less over the D90se

I bet if we could do an ABX blind listening test connecting 2 identical brand-new DACs, these reviewers would still detect huge differences between them :)

So many people are so fucking mad that their $900 DAC is not the best in the world. It's a $900 DAC, say that out loud.

Like many of you, I'm also interested in this DAC, but I know to keep my expectation realistic.

Why did it sound like you were trying to be nice :D I know it is a good product but just under 1000$ competition is relentless. Maybe they should send you some other products like SMSL D1se or New Gustard X18

Thanks for the look into the the D90se. It is nice to see Topping with a contender in the game but as you and others already noted, the competition at that $1K point is fierce, and if going for sonics and features I'd probably just target a BF2 or Ares II. Also, for a couple hundred more than the D90se, the Soekris dac2541 is a very real thing - features + sonics. The good thing is lots of options for achieving chain synergy are available @ the 1K budget point.
