I capitalized the key word in the above verse because I’ve often heard it used incorrectly to claim that we’re still required to keep the Old Covenant Law which focused mainly on our love for God. Many who believe this also point to Jesus’ answer to the lawyer’s question about which commandment was the greatest in the Mosaic Law. Jesus was not telling future believers under the New Covenant to try and keep the two greatest commandments He sited. He knew better than anyone that man was unable to keep those commandments, which was the main reason He gave them, to bring us to the end of ourselves and show us our need for a Savior. John understood this as well and was saying that if we’re having a problem with loving the world, it’s because we don’t know how much we’re loved by our Heavenly Father. The main focus of the New Covenant and its Gospel of Grace is not our weak, inadequate love for God, but instead His great, unfailing love for us, which He demonstrated beyond any doubt by sending His only son to die in our place, redeeming us from eternal judgement, paying the ultimate price for our forgiveness, healing, and justification. The more we focus on God’s great love for us, the more we’ll find ourselves loving Him effortlessly in response, while the things of this world fade away into the shadows as we turn from them to behold His marvelous light.

Wow I just realized as an estitician I work in the beauty field and I'm in a salon with women that are all about their looks I have had a hard time thinking always about my appearance and how to keep my skin healthy but was so into it that I had not realized that this field is all boutique the world and the pride of the flesh! I don’t know the Greek, but the Hebrew translation calls “the pride of life” “the pride of assets”. Therefore I believe this to relate to one’s belongings and not their status. Because I believe we should chase prestige status, in order to give glory to God.

Two paths in the Bible the path of Adam & Eve(Old Testament) and the path of Jesus & Mary(New Testament).

One choosing the creation over The Creator and the other choosing The Creator over the creation. Jesus, Mary, Joseph, The Apostles and so on understood to stay single and have no compromise or strings attached to the world.
