Why Jack O Lanterns Are Associated With #halloween 🎃 Part 2

Halloween is based on the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which celebrated the end of the harvest and the onset of winter on November 1st.

During Samhain, people believed that the veil between the dead and the living was at its thinnest allowing spirits to roam the earth - which is why people began wearing costumes as a disguise to hide from the wandering spirits, and lit bon fires to ward off evil entities. #history

Overtime the Catholic church moved “All saints day” to November 1st, which made October 31st officially“All Hallows Eve”. And the traditions from SOW-IN like dressing in costumes and carving pumpkins inspired by the folklore of Stingy jack remained.
