By the way, Windows 7's wait cursors spin a frame slower than Windows Vista's but still uses the same amount of frames in the wait cursor. This makes the cursor animation skip a frame. Now you can't unsee it!

They Should Update Cursor in Windows 11

I think Windows 11 will get a new cursor because the new pointer icon has been in almost every location

The hourglass being replaced by the spinning circle when vista was released was reminiscent of the wristwatch being replaced by a spinning beach ball when Mac OS X was released

Windows NT 4 has a cursor slight change to Windows 2000 & XP for the shadowing

Fun fact: the Windows 3.x/NT 3.x cursor is also used in all Windows CE versions
(Except that Working in Background cursor which is from Microsoft Chicago build 73 was also included in Windows CE)

Seeing the normal cu- er, I mean, hourglass and spinning diamond ring of death that showed on my family’s old potato floortop brought back memories of me gaming on the loud, slow thing. It would show that and pretend to be busy while playing ms flight simulator for minutes on end, usually followed by the current application saying it “has stopped working” or sometimes even a BSOD.

I like Macs because of the “Pinwheel of Death” or “Spinning Color Wheel”. Also, in MacOS Monterey, you now have the option to change the pointer colors.

if you look at the windows vista + 7 waiting icons, in they're animation they have a slight bubbling effect on the sides, i never noticed that!
