Not all "levels" of disability will qualify for household assistance in Germany. In the USA, our family member, despite no changes in their income or condition, didn't qualify any traditional disability assistance. Coverage is available through universal health insurance. 💚

There is so many stigmas in the US that severely holds our society back.
I'm guessing that the person who came to assist in you in Germany also makes a living wage, has healthcare, and paid vacation, and...you get my point. There should be no stigma if someone needs help. Curse of the rugged individualism in the US.

I got ADHD, i can get an assistant to help me clean, plan my week, make sure that documents gets sent on time, and whatever i need. Even transportation to and from places is part of them helping me, also grocery shopping if I need help with that.
I am not in Germany but Denmark.

I had a stroke a year ago, leaving me with very limited mobility and scattered cognition and I had to leave my job as a children's librarian. My husband is active duty, so we are on a limited budget. We do not qualify for a single thing here in the US b/c he "makes to much." Watching your videos really makes me want to leave the US.

Once again, how can anyone say the US is the greatest country in the world. Far from it.

That’s amazing! It takes me days to stop looking at flights when her videos come up. 😂 Meanwhile in the US, it took 2 years for a family member with a leg amputation to qualify for any help.

As someone with a mental disability. Even just having this once a month would be a huge weight off my shoulders. 2 times a month and I'd be so happy.

My goodness. I can't believe how bad things are in America.

I get this in New Zealand, because both people in my household are disabled, and my helper is the best!! I love her so much and she makes my life so so much better and easier.

It takes a village and most of us don’t live in multi-generational homes in small, tight-knit communities any more

Goddess, I wish I had that kind of benefit. My partner is so overworked trying to take care of us. She works full time and is singlehandedly responsible for all household chores. I wish I could do more to help but I just lack the physical capacity.

As a disabled person in the US (whom the government refuses to provide any assistance to) I want to leave this country SO BADLY. But we often get so trapped due to financial and physical difficulties. I know for a fact in another country I’d probably be able to work far more, get the proper support, and the medical care necessary for a decent quality of life.

My cousin and her husband moved over from Miami USA where they both worked in Aerospace. And while in Europe, got a multi-handicapped child. They make very decent money, but with the added benefit, they were able to buy a house with an extra floor. Where 3 professional care workers permanently live (1 at a time. They take turns) Medical staff that are qualified to handle this type of disability. On 2 minutes notice, 24 hours a day So that their parents are free to work and have a life. But next year, they feel the kid is old enough to move to a caretaking institution.

The usually very America-proud father often says "If we had stayed in Miami, we would be ruined"

I needed your voice of experience when I was arguing with someone on Facebook.

As the completely disabled person in my family… this would change our whole lives. Just a LITTLE help would improve my standard of living TREMENDOUSLY. We have the best insurance money can buy in America (my husband works for a top-10 company for workers, one of the top 500 in the world). Ae are very lucky. But still, this is not an option. We don’t even invite people in anymore. It’s just me and my husband and he can only do so much working 50+ hours a week and taking care of me and literally everything in our life. People would be shocked to see how our beautiful 4 bedroom home looks on the inside. If we weren’t entirely isolated by my years of illness and his job being one without a central location that has always been WFH or travel.

Ambulatory nursing was kinda fun during my training. We had a grandma and just cooked some coffee, collected the trash made sure she had taken her meds and socialised in the meantime (and since it was during training there was two of us and we had time to sit down and have a cup of coffee as well 😂)

Usually the family is not entitled to social welfare for the disabled family members because they would be a drain on the health care system. My spouse is disabled and he did not qualify to emigrate to my country so I had to emigrate to his country (Canada) because at that time I had no disabilities. After being here for 20 years I do have disablities now and yes we now get home help as well.

I really dislike the stigma that able bodied people put on those that aren’t. It can make such a negative impact in ways that they don’t realize. I’m very happy you reached out and got the assistance available to you. As a full time caregiver for an elderly grandparent this kind of help would make SUCH a positive impact on my life.
