I can see how easy it could be to fall into the trap of always needing to do some big concept for a video, and always having to make each video better than the last one. But honestly those are the types of constraints that we put on ourselves that people rarely actually expect of us. You are the reason people come to this channel, and we will keep coming whether you're wrapping up 5 completely unrelated books that you just felt like reading that month or you're binging a whole series on a trip to a haunted hotel. Give yourself permission to mood read!!!

This is such a wake-up call from my perspective! When I look at your channel for this half of the year, I first think that your channel is full of creative and fun videos with a lot of personality (and One Piece lol).
Now that I know that you had a booktuber crisis, I had a whiplash of how different our views are. This is proof that people view the same thing differently

Dont rush yourself Gavin. It's important to take breaks when we can. I tried to be a manga only channel but I'm happy my channel is evolving a little at a time. 1. How has your 2023 reading year gone so far?
Amazing! 10 five star books so far. I've read 56 books out of my 100-book goal. Hopefully, nothing hits the fan in the second half.

2. What is the best book you've read so far in 2023?
The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke. I read it during Middlegrade March. Amazing, sci-fi dystopian with talking dolphins. What else would you need?😉

3. Best sequel you've read so far in 2023?
It's a tie between The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren and The Fires of Vengeance by Evan Winter.

4. A new release you haven't read yet but want to?
I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself by Marisa Crane

5. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo

6. Biggest disappointment of 2023 so far?
Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James. This book was too vulgar for me, and I had to DNF it.

7. Biggest surprise of 2023 so far?
Direction of the Road: A Story by Ursula K. Le Guin. My book club was doing a theme of "reading from an unexpected perspective." This 19-page story was told from the perspective of a tree. I tried to fit in one more story before I had to attend the meeting. I didn't expect to give a 19-page story 5 stars, nor have it stick with me the way it has, but my goodness. I need to read more books by her.

8. Favourite new author (new to you or debut)?
Camille Baker. I read her Have We Met? duology and loved it. I will gladly pick up anything else she chooses to put out.

9. Newest fictional crush?
Death, aka Suzie from Reincarnation Blues by Michael Poore

10. Book that made you cry?
The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren

I recently bought Owlflight by Mercedes Lackey & Larry Dixon from a library sale. Gorgeous!
